Making Change at Walmart

Back in 2010, the United States Supreme Court ruled that corporations were entitled to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence the outcome of elections. The court actually ruled that corporations had the same rights as people-- how ridiculous is that?

It's so absurd that the 2012 election cycle wouldn't be complete without a mock candidacy by the nation's largest corporation: Walmart! Of course, we already know that Walmart has spent millions of dollars supporting various candidates for elected office. That's why it makes perfect sense for Walmart to take things to the next level and become a full-fledged candidate for President of the United States.

In the immortal words of Mitt Romney - "Corporations are people, my friend."

Unlimited corporate spending on elections is the driving force in our democracy. Yet, there is a growing movement in this country to deny corporations the rights afforded to them by the Supreme Court of the United States but Los Angeles, passed a resolution declaring that corporations are not people and money isn't free speech. South Carolina Democrats want to put a resolution on the ballot asking the public to vote on corporate person hood. There are even people who would blame the lingering recession and growing inequality in our society on major corporations, as they dump to bundle millions into campaigns representing a “person' as defined by law not science..

That is why, today, Walmart is officially announcing its candidacy for President of the United States, as defined by law, it is a person and as a person can run for election. It's time to take a stand and fight for those who have come under so much attack in recent months, the 1%. They need a strong voice in this race, and as America's largest private employer and the world's largest retailer, with over $480 billion in revenue in 2010, Walmart is that voice. Some might scoff at such a notion, since no major corporation has ever even been elected to Congress. But this is America-where corporations are considered people and any retail conglomerate can grow up to be a President. Welcome to 1984 in 2012! One World Government under one Corporation; meet Walmart, a neutered person of no race, color or creed; just a board of directors wanting to take over our great country!

WALMART MAY SOON BEGIN TO FEEL ANGLER BACKLASH

RFA Said Nationwide Protests Against Walton Family Are Expected

August 19, 2011 - The Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) says angler and business response to the group's call for a nationwide Wal-Mart boycott have been overwhelming, to the point that coastal communities can expect to see some grassroots protest begin very soon outside of their local Wal-Mart corporate chain location.

"We've had calls of support from both coasts, even from a few Midwest bass fishermen, our nation's anglers are extremely agitated by the Walton Family Foundation's actions," said RFA executive director Jim Donofrio. "When you spend your hard-earned money on fishing tackle only to learn that the profits are being used to close down fishing access, it gets folks justifiably upset."

Earlier this week, RFA called on an angler boycott of Wal-Mart after learning that the Walton Family Foundation had awarded more than $36 million to groups like Ocean Conservancy, Conservation International Foundation, Marine Stewardship Council, World Wildlife Fund and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), in support of marine protected areas and catch share programs. Coincidentally, the Walton Family Foundation announcement came the same day that Wal-Mart stores' CEO announced to shareholders a 5.5% increase in net sales to $108.6 billion.

While RFA said it received hundreds of positive responses literally overnight in support of the national boycott, there was opposition from at least two supporters of blanket marine reserves.

"One gentleman emailed to say he'd gladly give up fishing today so that his great-grandkids will know what a fish looks like tomorrow," Donofrio said, adding "the problem of course is that these groups who want to get us off the water today don't want us on the water tomorrow either. The real sacrifice for our future fishermen is from those who are willing to fight right now for open access while it's under direct threat by anti-fishing efforts."

"The fishing community supports conservation, but we're not willing to accept preservation, exclusion or privatization," Donofrio added.

RFA said the EDF public relations department was also quick to respond in defense of their $7,086,054 Walton Family Foundation donation. According to Tom Lalley, communications director for EDF's Oceans Program (and RFA's newest Twitter follower at www.twitter.com/joinrfa), the money being contributed by Wal-Mart to close down oceans and privatize fisheries is actually coming from Wal-Mart's owners and stockholders, not the store itself. "The contribution was made by the Walton Family Fund and not Wal-Mart," Lalley said, calling the two entities different.

"The fund's money comes from private holdings of the same Waltons who started and managed Wal-Mart, but none of the money comes from the existing company," Lalley explained, adding "it was the family, and specifically the family's foundation, that made a contribution for sustainable fishing and ocean conservation, and not the store."

According to RFA managing director Jim Hutchinson, Jr., the marketing executives at EDF are some of the best in the 'astroturfing' business, but he calls Lalley's claims almost comical. "So I leave you a $1,000 bill in the cereal aisle at Wal-Mart, tucked under a box of sugar coated corn flakes, does that mean that Wal-Mart actually gave you the $1,000, or maybe EDF would argue it was really a contribution from Tony the Tiger himself," Hutchinson laughed.

"The heirs to the corporate fortune have spent two decades successfully building back their stake in this publicly held company to the point they now own over 50% of the Wal-Mart operation. The Walton Family Foundation is Wal-Mart, and the Walton family itself is making billions in our local communities, so to say that the two are separate entities is simply ridiculous. Actually expecting us to believe that statement is borderline insanity," Hutchinson said.

RFA is reminding anglers who are interested in organizing grassroots protests outside their local Wal-Mart store to consult with local authorities first. "We encourage peaceful protest, but every municipality has its own rules and regulations regarding active protest," said Donofrio.

"If you're interested in picketing outside of Wal-Mart to express your anger over their support of anti-fishing efforts, call the local police department first to explain what you're doing and be sure to keep it respectful and follow the law," Donofrio added.

Watchdog group's report says $1B in government subsidies have aided the retailer's expansion. http://money.cnn.com/2004/05/24/news/fortune500/walmart_subsidies/ uses taxpayer dollars to create jobs that tend to be poverty-wage, part-time and lacking in adequate healthcare benefits." And that 75% Full-time jobs they boost of at the end of the article, represents 28 hrs a week plus, you get Full-time status. Full time part time job no wonder you can't afford 35 dollar a week health insurance at minimal wage.

These names look familiar? Ocean Conservancy, Conservation International Foundation, Marine Stewardship Council, World Wildlife Fund and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Well they should, your friendly Wal-Mart announced "investments" totaling more than $71.8 million awarded to them, last year in “Buying Up Your Fishing Spots!” An additional 36 million handed over this year to help in the lock down of Privatization of the Oceans of the USA. And you thought they just sold fishing equipment for a profit. Those rod and reels to baits and lures are angling to own a piece of that water you fish and then lease it back to you at a “Roll-Back” price. Catch Shares are catching on in Congress so President Obama and his Yellow brick Road Club, led by Dr. Jane Lubchenco, keep changing the names, to protect their self-interests. With Agenda 21, it started with ICLEI then changed to Smart Growth, then to Sustainable whatever and so on but with Catch Shares we now have the so called "marine protected areas." That could be somewhere to every where! A Cover it all phrase that smells of Pew Charitable Trusts, who has billions in reserve to fight for its right to own your ocean. I'll bet PEW to EDF will not back my campaign in The Right To Fish because I FISH and I VOTE! Even if I am only testing the waters for US Senate, Florida, I'll take a broadside before I'd take a dime from those scaly wags!

Walmart gets millions to billions in Subsidies, YOUR TAX DOLLARS, to sell you sweat labor and ruin your neighborhood. Take away your community, take away your fish, and use that word "Sustainability" code word for Agenda 21!

If we as Americans want to save money and buy American Products then we need an all out Boycott of Walmart Stores. Those Roll-Out Prices you are paying for with Government Taxpayer Subsidies. You didn't think they were just cheaper because they are big, did you? They are the biggest Union Busting giant around and they are King of the Hill! Look at our state of Florida where if you work for them, it's either part time, no health benefits or full time and you cannot afford what they offer, so you are now eligible for Medicare. Florida has almost all of its Walmart Associates on your dime, so they can make more money off you...and you let them, by buying there every day? Why? Ma Bell to Standard Oil Company were both busted as Monopolies as such, they are not allowed by law, going back to the railroad days of the frontier. Walmart is but a large Chinese Company with an American Name and an American Family taking advantage of hard working Americans in selling predominantly foreign products to Americans. Walmart is but a conduit to the capitalism in this country to which they have not a clue! Now, that Walmart has put many a small business down, they are going after the fishing grounds to which is or was American owned.
